Astra Public Contribution

Astra implements sustainable business strategies as well as being a good corporate citizen to develop a sustainable business by balancing economic, social, and environmental contributions.

The Public Contribution Roadmap is an important Corporate Sustainability strategy to create the balance between business interests and social and environmental considerations, in Astra’s Pride of the Nation journey.

Astra’s sustainable social contribution has three flagship programs, namely Kampung Berseri Astra, Desa Sejahtera Astra, and SATU Indonesia Awards. Astra also consistently carries out Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) management programs within Astra Group’s internal environment as well as social contribution programs for the community which are categorized under four pillars, namely: Astra Untuk Indonesia Sehat, Astra Untuk Indonesia Cerdas, Astra Untuk Indonesia Hijau, and Astra Untuk Indonesia Kreatif.

As of 2020, Desa Sejahtera Astra program, focused on the economic development in rural communities, reached 755 villages, while the Kampung Berseri Astra program reached 116 villages across all 34 provinces of Indonesia. In implementing Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra programs, several award recipients and finalists of SATU Indonesia Awards also supported these programs by facilitating the community and expanding the scope of existing programs.

Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards is an appreciation for the young generation, both individuals and groups who have been pioneering and making changes to be shared with the surrounding community. SATU Indonesia Awards has been held since 2010 to provide awards in the fields of health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, and technology as well as a group category representing these five fields. Specifically, in 2020, SATU Indonesia Awards presented a special category to appreciate selfless fighters during the COVID-19 pandemic

The 11th SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 managed to attract 10,036 participants compared to 8,654 participants in 2019, or an increase of 16%. Since first held, this program has awarded 397 young people comprising 70 recipients at the national level and 327 recipients at the provincial level. Astra also encourages young people involved in the SATU Indonesia Awards to collaborate with the flagship programs of Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) and Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA). The aim is to have a greater and sustainable impact in increasing the contribution and positive impact on development efforts in the region.

Under Astra Untuk Indonesia Sehat, as of 2020, Astra has carried out various programs, including fostering 2,465 integrated healthcare posts (posyandu) and 9,881 health cadres as well as company internal programs to prevent accidents and work-related illness. Through Astra Untuk Indonesia Cerdas, Astra contributes to improving the quality of education in the form of assistance and development aid to 21,209 schools, 56,330 teachers and 267,479 scholarship packages distributed nationwide. For Astra Untuk Indonesia Hijau, 5.09 million trees were planted, including 1.46 million mangrove trees. Astra has also developed Endangered Local Fruit Conservation Centers (Pranaraksa Center) in 32 locations with a total of 21,573 endangered local fruit trees planted.

In 2020, Astra initiated the “Semangat Kurangi Plastik” movement as part of its efforts to reduce plastic waste and create an environment free of plastic waste pollution. Astra reduced plastic consumption in the Company by 4.9% compared to 2019 levels. Astra also remains consistent in implementing sustainable consumption & production to ecourage resources efficiency and through Astra Green Energy (AGEn) as energy conservation program, which successfully reduced greenhouse gas emission of 461 thousand tonnes CO2 equivalent. Through Astra Untuk Indonesia Kreatif, Astra Group and its foundations have fostered 14,711 MSMEs, with 195,937 beneficiaries, and 861 persons with disabilities.
